Masterpiece

There is a warm memory in my mind of preaching after our first son’s birth at a beautiful church campground in Florida, called Masterpiece Gardens. I remember doing a morning prayer walk with my heart full of praise for our first child and God’s intention for his life. I would gaze on my wife singing softly with joy in her heart as she nursed him. I thought that was the most beautiful Masterpiece I had ever gazed upon.

Through the years we have seen many works of art and architecture that have been called by an artist’s name as their Masterpiece. Not a single one of them compare to the children, grandchildren, sons and daughters of faith within our church who God has brought into our lives through the years. They are his Masterpiece.

God says so, “For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago.” Ephesians 2:10

Whoever you are. Wherever you are. Whatever your condition. You can be a true work of art through the new creation Jesus Christ does in those who trust him. He gives you intention or purpose. Your calling or purpose in life, what you truly love, enjoy, and excel at reveals God’s work in your life. That life of love and good things or good works that you do is His intention for your life. It is how you help make the world a better place, a more loving place, a place of hope.

The good news is that Christ is always with us. His presence enables us to live less effortlessly, to experience a flow of His love and power in the face of every challenge. Like so many of the heroes of the Bible, Jesus is with us whether we are at the end of our rope or the end of our life. When we know that it gives us perspective that heaven is getting nearer all the time. Read the following message to the Apostle John while imprisoned on a rocky island in the Aegean.

“This is a revelation from Jesus Christ, which God gave him to show his servants the events that must soon take place. He sent an angel to present this revelation to his servant John, who faithfully reported everything he saw. This is his report of the word of God and the testimony of Jesus Christ. God blesses the one who reads the words of this prophecy to the church, and he blesses all who listen to its message and obey what it says, for the time is near.” Revelation 1:1-3

Jesus says to John, “I will see you through; heaven is getting closer; and I will bless you if you keep reading this prophecy” which we call the Book of Revelation. You want to be blessed? Read it often. The really cool thing is Jesus signs his name to this prophecy. “This is … from Jesus Christ…” verse 1.

Jesus was with John on Patmos. He will be with you in your present. His love will always find you. His presence will give you hope. Finally, joy comes from living and dying doing what God created you, His masterpiece, to do.

Think about it.

  1. What do you think about when you first wake up in the morning?
  2. What dominates your thinking during the day?
  3. What do you fall asleep at night thinking about?
