About Me

cropped-fullsizeoutput_4a861.jpeg

I’m a passionate follower of Jesus Christ, the husband of Becky, father of Andrew, Christopher, Benjamin and Aimee, the grandfather of Nolan, Davin and Josiah, the pastor of Woodland Church, a friend, learner and a lover of outdoors, good coffee and books!

I’m married to the girl of my dreams, really!  We have been married for forty two years. I can’t imagine life without her.

My passions outside of my family and the church are reading, jogging, hiking, golf, friends, travel, conversation, Georgia Football and good coffee.  Preferably Ethiopian Sidamo!

I like to eat.  Southern cooking like Fried Chicken is my favorite.  My motto is “If you fry it, I’ll try it!”  But I like Lebanese food, Chinese, Tex-Mex and Italian.  Oh, yes, I love banana pudding and coconut pie and coconut cake.  It is a wonder I haven’t spread out like the U.S. map.

I hope to share with my readers, books, experiences and thoughts regarding being a follower of Jesus Christ as I live it with my family, friends and church.

  1. I finally made it to your site. I found your comments interesting and after this morning’s message I have to agree you do have Georgia on your mind! I have but one comment of my own about your blog picture. You really should ditch the glasses or else put them up on your nose where they belong! It makes you look much older than you are. But then, it does give you a rather scholarly appearance so perhaps you should leave them after all.

  2. Hello from the mid-west,Where is the Starbucks in that picture? You are slipping! Very nice blog;by the way,I find old thoughts creeping on me all the time. Facebook, blogging it is all techno-greek to me. Thanks for giving me the heads up on your blog. I enjoyed all the insights, and when I have time to checkout some links I will. Miss you much! Kevin

  3. Dennis!!!! I love this. Thank goodness Phillip finally sent something to me that didn’t make me want to choke him! 🙂 We’ve bantered a bit about politics. Love to you both!! You guys are wonderful classics! Like comfort food. BTW – working at Starbucks I can hook you up w/ Ethiopia Sidamo.
    Blessings, Cindy

  6. Finally made it to your blog — it’s awesome. You know you guys will forever hold a special place in our hearts from our early days as believers in Georgia. We love you guys and pray the Lord’s blessings on your family & the ministry the Lord has called you to. We hope to one day partake bread together as we did in the past. Blessings!

  7. Hey there! It’s great to hear from you. I think often of those days with the fondest of memories and so much gratitude for your friendship. I’ve shared often about Mike and Lucy! Getting together would be great! Much love!

  8. Hi Pastor, I like this blog. I will be following you here and hope to see more from you on this page.. God Bless. Later. LeRoy

  9. Hi Pastor, I am so glad to have found your page. I never knew how perfect God’s timing is. I met you one time before I got cancer. Loved you and the church immediately. I had too much going on in my life, didn’t have time for church. Then me, the health freak, work out freak, maker of green organic drinks daily freak, who was invincible…… suddenly came down with stage 4 cancer. Wow, was I shocked, scared and so angry at God. How could He do this to me? I had a life, a daughter, plans…. then this???? You and your staff started praying for me. You were there at the hospital. You and Woodland suddenly became a very important part of my life. I don’t know my future now. I’m in remission,,, praise God! Unemployed, but God supplied my needs this far. Looking desperately for a job. My future is blank. I don’t know what my future is now. Lost my 2 jobs, my cats, my way of life. Then I gained a great Pastor and church, that will be in the next chapter of my life. Which currently is a bunch of blank pages. I know I’m getting stronger and will be back into running, hiking, caving, rock climbing, zip lining and anything else. I hope to talk and maybe go for a run with you sometime in the near future. Thank you so much for all you did for me. You probably don’t even realize all you did. God’s timing is perfect. Thank you so much for all you, Becky and several church members have done. Love you! God Bless!

  10. Dear Peggy, I’m so glad that your sister invited you to Woodland. All of us rejoice with you for the recovery and healing that God has given you. Now, we will pray with you and be there for you as God gives you a fresh start for your future. Blank pages are wonderful place for a new chapter to be written. There have been occasions when we have known that a chapter has closed in our lives and a new one was about to begin. It’s exciting and anxious at the same time.

Wow! I didn’t know that you were such an athlete. Continue to recover, regain your strength and conditioning so that you can do those things again. There is someone at Woodland I’d like to introduce you too when you are ready. She’s a marathoner, free swimmer, biker and races boats as well. She is also a passionate follower of Christ.

    Love ya much!

  11. Hi Pastor! This is nicole baldwin, Peggy’s (awesome) daughter! 🙂
She told me about your site and I wanted to check it out.
I really enjoyed the service today and the trunk or treating. It’s been hard to find a church that I actually felt comfortable and welcome at. But the very first time I went to Woodland I knew instantly that this was the perfect church for me. I am SO blessed and thankful to be apart of the Woodland family. This is the first church I’ve looked forward to going to every Sunday and I’m actually excited to go. I love it so much!
    God bless!

  12. Pastor Clanton: I heard your comments in the most recent Governor’s briefing about Covid-19. In your opening remarks, you gave one of the most succinct summaries of why we gather as the Body of Christ. Would you be willing to send that speech to my e-mail. I’d like to share what you said, and how your church has responded, with our church, where I am a music minister. Thankyou! John Taylor
