Thank you, thank you, thank you for all the prayers, cards, phone calls, and visits this week. Each and every one has meant so much to me. I’ve felt so supported, encouraged, and loved—and I don’t take it for granted.
This past week, I was able to enjoy a full schedule of ministry, even as today—Monday, August 4—kept drawing closer. At my last appointment, the doctors and nurses told me to eat whatever I wanted. So, let me just say: I ate well. I enjoyed all the ice cream I desired, indulged in cake and pie, and had steak not once, but twice. I truly enjoyed every bite while it lasted!
Sunday morning worship at Woodland was filled with the presence of God. From the first note of music to the final prayer, my heart overflowed with joy. It was such a privilege to preach from God’s Word on how to grow in faith. Several people told me afterward that the message helped them focus on trusting God more intentionally—and that brings me deep joy.
Last night, I went on my usual three-mile walk with my brother-in-law Phillip. Having him and Sherry here has been a blessing beyond words. Their support, encouragement, and love during this time has meant so much.
So today is the day.
In just a little while, we’ll head to the University of Michigan Hospital for surgery to remove the tumor in my colon. I long to hear the doctors say, “There is no trace of cancer.” That’s my prayer.
But if the surgery is necessary, please hear me clearly: God has not failed me.
I’ve prayed for many people who were healed. And I’ve prayed for many who were not. I’ve never believed that God’s healing power is limited to one outcome or one method. God often uses medicine, surgery, and the skilled hands of doctors and nurses to bring about healing. However this turns out, I believe I’m going to be cancer free.
Your prayers matter.
Your prayers have truly helped me—and they will continue to. I hold fast to what the Apostle Paul wrote:
“We have placed our confidence in him, and he will continue to rescue us. And you are helping us by praying for us. Then many people will give thanks because God has graciously answered so many prayers for our safety.”
— 2 Corinthians 1:10–11 (NLT)
Becky will keep you updated this week on my Facebook page. Thank you again for your faithful prayers, your kindness, and your love. We are confident in God’s goodness and trusting Him every step of the way.
Peace!
Good morning Pastor Dennis. This verse came to mind this morning praying for you.
Galatians 6:9
And let us not grow weary while doing good, for in due season we shall reap if we do not lose heart.”
I am praying for you, Pastor Dennis…I know in my heart that you will be fine. God has you in the palm of His hand! I have walked this same journey…with only God by my side…I had the colon surgery…stage 3 colon cancer last year. I went through 6 months of Chemotherapy, again with ONLY GOD by my side. I AM NEVER ALONE, because GOD is with me and I have NEVER felt closer to HIM than now. I have been cancer free for 8 months now! GOD IS ALWAYS WITH ME…HIS PRESENCE IS WORTH IT ALL!
My love and prayers are with you and Becky as you walk your journey to complete health! ❤️🤗
Thank you Joanne! Your note encourages me so much! Becky and I rejoice in God’s touch on your life. Love you much!
