Congratulations to President Obama for winning the Nobel Peace Prize. Anytime an American and especially our President receives this historic award we can all be proud of their achievement. It means something to America and the rest of the world. Our ideals are still leading the world.
In his speech this morning, I appreciated the humble remarks he made, especially how his children kept it in perspective for him. I also admired that he acknowledged that he did not believe he deserved it since he had not had opportunity to achieve anything.
So was it presented because of his vision or as a way to advance the Nobel Committee’s liberal political agenda? I hope that I’m not cynical but I believe it is for both.
There is no doubt that President Obama has a big vision. There is also no doubt that a Republican President would not have an ice cube’s chance in Hades to receive this prize.
President Reagan led the free world in pulling down the Iron Curtain and did more to advance peace than any President in my life time. I thought he deserved it then and I still do. However we can deal with that.
What bothers me are the ideologues who are bashing President Bush. If awarding President Obama was a way to insult President Bush, then the Nobel Committee has cheapened and stained their own prize. President Obama should acknowledge that. President Bush deserves the same respect.
Corrupt political ideologues blind people and deliberately destroy reputations. Whether Republican, Democrat or Independent they are dangerous.
One of the best ways to defeat them is to “give honor to whom honor is due.” The President has been honored, I think, for his vision of peace. I acknowledge that and congratulate him. I also acknowledge all Americans who have sent their families to serve those far away and the many who have given their lives for others in distant lands for peace.
What do you think?
Peace and Joy!
