Reading the Bible this Year

The rewards of reading the Bible in community is growing in our knowledge of God together. Throughout the year, we will discover promises, prophecies, peace, and direction together. Individually we will grow, but we will also grow as brothers, sisters, and friends. Remember that God calls us together into a kingdom. Let me invite you to read the Bible with me this year. I will make a few brief comments about the passages we will read that week. I know that you will enjoy this.

Just a word of encouragement, the Bible is a big book. If this is your first time reading the Bible, start by reading just the New Testament portions for that week. Next year you could read the Old Testament portions. It is far more important to spend time prayerfully reading the Bible. This is not a chore, it is a joy. If you treat it like a task, you will lose the joy of spending time with the Lord. I will share some ideas that I use in my Bible reading throughout the year. Each week, I will post the month’s schedule in my email and blog post. It is a plan to read Monday through Friday. The weekend is free. If you fall behind, and you will at times, you can catch up for that week. Life happens!

Let’s get started. In Matthew we read about the anguish that Joseph experienced. He learned that following God’s plan is not always easy. Joseph will trust God’s word about the virgin birth. He will flee with Mary and the infant Jesus to Egypt to protect Jesus from Herod’s wrath. One of the most beautiful stories of people who are seeking, pursuing, asking good questions, giving, and worshiping the Lord.

Next, just as the Holy Spirit overshadowed Mary and Christ was conceived, God fulfills His promise. He baptizes 120 in the Holy Spirit. The church is born.

Genesis, reveals the story of our origin and the powerful story of creation. Psalms begins with one of my favorite Psalms of how God watches over the path of the godly.

I hope you join me on this journey in 2025. Please feel free to share this with your friends and invite them to join us.
