Happy Sabbath #2

It is a pleasant surprise for a pastor when a Sunday morning message strikes a chord with so many. The message Sunday about Sabbath Rest has sparked conversations every day this week. A common summary of the comments reveals that most of us have not seen Sabbath as the grace gift that it is. There is a deep need for experiencing connection with God and one another that Sabbath affords us. The joy of resting in the company of good friends and family in the afternoon and evening on this blessed day refreshes us. Renewal and fresh focus comes when cease from our labor and enjoy the gift of leisure that is afforded us. All grace!

Observing Sabbath “Celebrates God’s love!”

Observing Sabbath is a brilliant way to “persuade people to become passionate followers of Christ!”

Only people who been set free from slavery can truly be free to appreciate what Sabbath means. “Remember that you were once slaves in Egypt, but the LORD your God brought you out with his strong hand and powerful arm. That is why the LORD your God has commanded you to rest on the Sabbath day.” (Deuteronomy 5:15)

There are not a list of rules that Christians are called to obey the Sabbath. After morning worship, enjoy playing a game of football with your kids, gather with family and friends over for a casual dinner, nap, read a book, or whatever. Put work aside for one day. You were created to enjoy this day God gave you.

We celebrate Sabbath on Sunday, the day we celebrate the resurrection of Jesus Christ. It is why we don’t fast on Sunday. Sunday is a day of celebration of God’s love in Christ and the new life He gives to those who have faith in Him.

What do you need to do to rearrange your life to take advantage of Sabbath?

Peace!
