CHRISTMAS FAVOR

snowy woodsBut the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid. I bring you good news that will cause great joy for all the people. … Glory to God in the highest heaven, and on earth peace to those on whom his favor rests.” (Luke 2:10; 14, NIV)

A wonderful promise is contained in the phrase, “good news that will cause great joy for all the people.” God’s favor or grace is cause for exceedingly great joy! What you are aware of other than the birth of Christ that will cause great joy for all people?

I think we experience something of God’s delight when we watch our children open their gifts on Christmas morning. Our children and grandsons shout and laugh with joy opening their gifts. It’s a happy moment for Becky and me. It’s even happier when I see Becky opening her gifts from me. Surely heaven must be something like that moment.

God’s favor has been given to each of us. It was measured out to us by Christ who gave it.” (Ephesians 4:7, GW)

I am grateful for the experience of worshipping joyfully with followers of Jesus around the world. A few minutes ago with a cup of coffee, a memory of worship services with Ethiopian believers dancing and bowing in worship. I can’t dance. These wonderful people drew me and tried to teach me how to dance before the Lord like they did. Alas, they kindly conceded it wasn’t my gift. My take away was their great joy in Christ because of His favor.

These believers had at one time suffered as political refugees in Kenyan camps for their faith. Others had been delivered from the occult. Some had been born in appalling poverty. But God in his grace and favor saved them. They were hard working, prospering, joyful and grateful believers who lived to serve Christ by serving others.

If you search for good, you will find God’s favor…” (Proverbs 11:27, LB)

I pray that you will know the peace and favor of God this Christmas! It’s joyful news for all the people.

Peace!
