The Second Coming of Christ is an appeal to walk with integrity and glistening purity. The passages encourage us make Jesus’ life a model for our own lives.
All who have this hope in him purify themselves, just as he is pure. 1 John 3:3, NIV
The Bible warns us against date setting. An unhealthy preoccupation with the timing or signs of the Second Coming of Christ will produce frustration and barrenness within you. Our motivation for studying His return is to mature and rejoice in our Savior. The Church ministers in the world with joy knowing He is coming again.
Something is seriously flawed with the motivation of the date setters. It’s why the Apostle Paul said “I don’t think, friends that I need to deal with the question of when all this is going to happen.” 1 Thessalonians 5:1, Message
Mr. Camping said in an interview with the Washington Post that his mathematical calculations would “probably crash Google’s computers.” Additionally he claims, “God has given him the mathematical formula.” Mr. Camping should be glad we don’t stone false prophets anymore.
I’ve loved hearing from some of you about your longing for Christ’s return being mixed with faithful prayer for your loved ones who haven’t committed their loves to Christ. That’s as it should be. The Post observed that Mr. Camping doesn’t seem sad to see the world be lost. The doctrines of end times should always give us a greater urgency for fulfilling the Great Commission. It is what renewed the modern missions movement begun by William Carey.
Remember the self limited knowledge that Christ took upon himself as the Son of Man when he walked among us. “But the exact day and hour? (Can you hear responding to their question about his return?) No one knows that, not even heaven’s angels, not even the Son. Only the Father.” Mark 13:32, Message It’s as though He is saying, “Get it guys, I don’t even know! The Father has reserved that for himself.” Just love God with all your heart, soul, mind and strength and love others like you do yourselves. And go into all the world and make disciples, baptize them and I will be with you until the end!
Let’s be more than enthusiastic about His return, let’s pray for it, let us live holy, let us love and serve like Christ did, but let’s be certain about His return but uncertain about when He returns.
If you are counting then we are two days away from the presumptuous but worthy of a wisdom story for Aesop’s fables, May 21 prediction of Christ’s return. Let’s save our song for the promise of His coming and not cry it’s today. It may well be, but only God knows.
- Who are you talking to God about?
- Who is on your Impact List?
- Will you invite them to church with you this week.
- What will you specifically do for them as unto the Lord?
- Are you praying for His return?
Tomorrow what the Bible said about the Signs of His Coming.
Love, Peace and Joy always!
