“Well-spoken words bring satisfaction…Rash language cuts and maims, but there is healing in the words of the wise. Truth lasts; lies are here today, gone tomorrow.” Proverbs 12:14, 18-19, Message
Some of the best speakers are not public speakers, motivational speakers, preachers or politicians. They are the people who speak the truth with love, wisdom, timing and godly compassion. Well spoken words are not soaring rhetoric but loving words spoken because you care. This is the kind of speech that emerges from a wise life well lived. It is not the speech of the academic, the public speaker, but of the person who understands and wants you to understand. Sometimes they will say to you, “Do you understand or got it?”
It is the speech of a mother to a troubled child. The dad who has watched his son or daughter grow and knows why they react the way they do. That parent chooses their words carefully knowing that loving words will remain forever. They also know that rash words cut and main and remain forever as well.
Over the years I’ve had too many conversations with scarred people who still recall the angry, rash words shouted at them. Only God can break those chains and heal those hearts.
Wise speech is hard work, don’t let anyone kid you about that. The rewards are eternal and fruitful.
Let me encourage you to become known as man or woman who learns life’s lessons well and chooses their words carefully to your spouse, children, colleagues and neighbor.
You can be a great speaker!
Peace and Joy!
