“We live by believing and not by seeing.” 2 Corinthians 5:7, NLT
“What do you want to know? What do you dream about? What arouses your curiosity? ” are questions I ask people who’ve been kind enough to ask me to mentor them. They are also the questions I ask people when I first get to know them. I want to know what people dream about. What they hope for. The answers to those questions reveal much us.
Without a doubt Moses was a man of incredible faith. God entrusted this man with the leadership of a mass exodus of possibly 2.5 million Hebrews from Egypt. They had been slaves for 400 years to the Egyptians and were neither mentally or spiritually y prepared for what it meant to become a nation as the Bible narrative reveals.
Moses prays, “Let me know your ways so I may understand you more fully and continue to enjoy your favor. Exodus 33:13, NLT.” He will need to know the ways of the Lord to lead these people who are steeped in the ways of the Egyptians, their task masters. The ways of the Lord are so different from the ways of the world. How you look at reality is determined either from a Biblical Worldview or you can select from a number of different worldviews that will lead you into bondage.
God says of His ways, “For as the sky soars high above earth, so the way I work surpasses the way you work, and the way I think is beyond the way you think. Isaiah 55:9, Message When I read that I think of how much more I need to learn about the kingdom of Heaven, especially as I lead my family and the church I am responsible to pastor.
Jesus taught us this also in what we call the Lord’s Prayer, “May your will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Matthew 6:10, NLT
When you stop and ponder these verses and consider the ways of the world then it’s obvious that we have to be mindful of the way of the Lord. When you become a passionate follower of Christ then you want to learn as much as you can about the Lord and live for him. His ways are ways of peace, joy and love!
Do you desire to learn more about the ways of God? Then renew your commitment to a daily time of reading and thinking about the Bible. God has given us this priceless gift so that we would know his ways. Study the ways of Jesus in the Gospels. Study the ways of the Holy Spirit working through the church in the Book of Acts.
Who are some people you know who live out their faith? Ask them to let you spend some time in prayer with them. What do they pray about? What are their dreams? What do they want to know?
Finally, what are your dreams? What do you want to really learn about? I hope that you will share those with me.
Tomorrow, the second part of Moses’ prayer.
Peace and Joy!
One thought on “Three Prayers of Faith – Part One”
Good Morning Pastor,
Enjoyed your message on “Believing” and your posts this week! It has inspired me to pray for “more” and an old song came to mind that I’ve used as a prayer! It’s by Eliza E Hewitt, “More about Jesus I would know.”
Some of the lyrics are…More about Jesus let me learn, more of His holy will discern, Spirit of God my teacher be, showing the things of Christ to me. More about Jesus in His word, holding communion with my Lord, hearing His voice in every line, making each faithful saying mine!”
So this week I’ve been dreaming about MORE…and I want my faith to be bigger today than it was yesterday…spending some time thinking about
II Pet. 1: 3-8 (NLT)
Much Love & Prayers to you Pastor & Becky & Your Family!
“May you receive more and more of God’s mercy, peace and love.” Jude 1:2
