I was reading Isaiah 40:1-11 this morning and a couple of thoughts come to mind as we prepare for Christmas.
One we are looking for the coming of our Lord with the peace and joy he has given us in new birth. We can prepare by offering the good news to others this Christmas, through coming alongside of the poor, marginalized and suffering. Think of how someone came alongside of us and as the saying goes, “Pay it forward.”
We can prepare our hearts in thankful worship to Christ. Sing the songs of Christmas with joy, meditate upon the Scriptures, and offer prayer in behalf of those for whom Christ died.
We can prepare by thoughtfully giving gifts without being caught up in the bondage of consumerism. It is neither Biblical or patriotic to spend for the sake of spending especially on credit. Give gifts that will bless, release, encourage, strengthen, and help those you intend to gift this Christmas. Especially remember those who cannot give back to you.
Yes, Christ is coming! He will rule with a powerful arm and return with his reward. He will shepherd his people.
