FOLLOWING JESUS INTO A STORM

Following Jesus sometimes means sailing right into the middle of a fierce storm. Fierce storms come in our lives. Jonah ran from God and was caught in a fierce storm. The disciples follow Christ and they too are caught in the middle of a fierce storm. Don’t be surprised by the storms but be sure you are following Christ and not running from the call of God. Big difference!

In the storm if you feel like Jesus is asleep, remember He is neither pacing back and forth with worry or unaware of your storm. Thus far in Matthew we have read some incredible miracles that Jesus did in the presence of the crowds and the disciples. Now Jesus, pulls the twelve aside for some coaching and strength training. The purpose is twofold. He will teach them how not to be afraid are in danger. Think of this as strength training for athletes. We have all seen a team wore down because of poor stamina. Secondly he is teaching them to be humble when He does a great miracle. Remember He is the One who gives the miracles not us. God can trust His power to people with pure hearts!

It is possible, there was demonic influence behind this storm. Jesus rebuked the storm, just like he rebuked demons. We do live in a fallen world and there are spiritual battles taking place. At any moment in the storms that you will face, Jesus can stand up and rebuke the wind and waves and peace will follow.

Here’s a thought, sometimes the best thing you can do is go to bed and sleep. God does give to his beloved sleep! See Psalm 127:2. When you are asleep you will be restored spiritually, emotionally, and physically. Remember Jesus was fully a man and fully God. He needed rest like we do.

Sleep peacefully and soundly tonight because He has promised to never leave or forsake us!

I love reading the Bible with you and I pray for you daily. Please remember, don’t rush through. It is better to stop and reflect, pray, and write your thoughts about the passage. You will not get much out of your Bible if you just read quickly to check off a box. The calendar is in the weekly bulletin, or you can download it using the link below. After this month I will only email those who request to read the Bible with me this year. Thank you to all who have responded, “YES”.

I look forward to seeing you Wednesday night, I will be preaching from the book of Joel!

PEACE!
