The LORD is good and does what is right; he shows the proper path to those who go astray. He leads the humble in doing right, teaching them his way. The LORD leads with unfailing love and faithfulness all who keep his covenant and obey his demands. Psalm 25:8-10
God guides people who are fully persuaded that everything he does is good and right. The paths that he leads us on will never lead us astray. They are challenging, difficult, and full of adventure. It’s why humility or a teachable attitude is so important to discipleship. God guides the humble.
The path that he lead us on is best described by Galatians 5:22-23, 22 “The Holy Spirit produces this kind of fruit in our lives: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control.” This is the path, the way, that God leads us. Let me express it again like this. You can follow him in a life of love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control.
Choosing a life of joy doesn’t mean that life is simple or pain free. Life isn’t easy but with our the Lord as our guide, he leads us in joy.
Choosing peace means I’m free to live the life God designed me to live. A life that is congruent with my personality, talents, gifts, and abilities.
Choosing a life of patience frees me from a life of urgency so that I can focus on the important. I’m free to wait patiently upon the Lord as I serve Him and others. If you’re single, you are not desperately seeking to be married. You’re never pushed into a decision or rushed. God leads the humble.
Choose one of the characteristics of the fruit of the Holy Spirit to think about and apply to your life this week.
What would a good life, a faithful life, a gentle life or life of love and self discipline look like?
What examples in the life of Jesus do you remember about each of these characteristics?
The most important decision to make is follow Christ passionately!
