God called you to do good!

“God called you to do good.” 1 Peter 2:21, NLT

Summer means fresh tomato sandwiches, tomatoes and rice, tomatoes and okra and fried green tomatoes!  There is one special couple at church that hangs a bag of tomatoes on the door to my study when their harvest comes in a couple of times per week.  They are doing something good!  Real good!  You know who you are!

God wills salvation, love, peace, joy, food for the hungry, generosity and kindness among many other wonderful things for our hurting world.  He chooses to use us in doing this good for others.

Dignity comes from doing good.  There is a personal blessing that is bestowed upon people who do good to others.  See 1 Corinthians 9:23 and Galatians 6:9!  Those two verses will encourage you in doing the will of God!  An article in today’s WSJ leads us to believe that successful presidential candidates have a hair thing going for them.  I think that today, more than ever character and integrity matter. It’s not the timbre of your voice, clothes, career or other things that people hope to earn a dignified life by.  It’s fulfilling the will of God by doing good to others in the name of Christ.  It certainly isn’t how we are saved but it is certainly what saved people do!

If a person professes faith in Christ and doesn’t do good, their confession of faith is worthless.  See James 2.  “Faith without good deeds is useless.” James 2:20b, NLT

Who did you do good to today?  Who will you do something good for tomorrow?  Who can you thank for doing good to you recently?

I’m going home to have a tomato sandwich!

Peace and Joy!
