Mustard Seed Faith

Each year at this time, my Dad would break up and fertilize a portion of ground, to plant his greens. He would sow, turnips, collards and my favorite mustard greens! I love them! They have a strong flavor with just a bite to let you know they are there.

I was fascinated by the tiny size of the seeds. They could produce such big plants. You might think the seed was just a useless speck of grit. To the eye of the gardener though there was power in those seeds. Give them the right amount of soil, fertilizer, water and sunlight and an incredible amount of energy was released from that tiny little speck of a seed. You wouldn’t believe the harvest from those tiny seeds either! We would fill a freezer and give so much more. (Southerners love greens!)

I think that is a really good Biblical description of your faith. There is incredible power in your faith placed in Christ!

Here is some good news on this 2010 Labor Day. You have faith! It might be small but placed in the right place it is powerful. Place your faith in Christ and His Word. Sure you will always find others who are skeptical and doubting. I can’t tell you how many people over the years told me the things that I would never be able to do. But by God’s grace the vision and the call he gave me, I’ve had the privilige of living out by faith that vision. One of my doctors told me a few years ago, “We have no idea how you have been able to do what you have done. It’s just impossible.”

Jesus said, “With God all things are possible!”

It’s easy to understand why Jesus would say that your faith placed in him would accomplish the impossible. Your faith in him can solve a mountain of problems. Your faith in him can reduce a mountain of hate to an oasis of love. Your faith in him can take your weaknesses and make them strengths! Your faith in him can take your frail health and make you whole!

The tiny little mustard seed Jesus spoke of would grow 12 feet in a year. How much will your faith grow as you place it exclusively in Christ.? Your possibilities are unlimited in Christ!

I tell you the truth, if you had faith even as small as a mustard seed, you could say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it would move. Nothing would be impossible.” Matthew 17:20, NLT

Tomorrow we’ll look at what it means to move a mountain.

Do you want your faith to grow?
What obstacles are you facing that could become your opportunities? When have you experienced your faith growing? Would you share with me a time when faith in Christ made a real difference in your life?

Peace and Joy!
