Faithfulness to the message of Jesus produces a generous heart in the life of a believer. Eventually we become more like our Savior. Christ taught us our treasure will be where our hearts are. God cares about your heart. A healthy heart is a generous one. A healthy heart is like Jesus.
Of course the fear that accompanies generosity is that if I give I will have less. With God the opposite is true. When we give, God enables us to become self-sufficient. “God will generously provide all you need. Then you will always have everything you need and plenty left over to share with others.” 2 Corinthians 9:8, NLT
The Amplified Version gives us this insight, “And God is able to make all grace (every favor and earthly blessing) come to you in abundance, so that you may always and under all circumstances and whatever the need be self-sufficient [possessing enough to require no aid or support and furnished in abundance for every good work and charitable donation].
In his grace Christ changes our heart from insecure, fearful children of sin into big-hearted, generous people. The constant provision of God to generous people enables them to become self-sufficient to be like their heavenly Father, givers. They have everything they need and plenty left over.
A pastor in Haiti last week told his congregation, “if you have a potato, cut it in half and share it with someone who doesn’t have a potato.”
What do you have that you can share?
Tomorrow, why we give.
Peace and Joy be yours in abundance!
