Alan Greenspan’s error is a Lesson for all of us

God wanted to guarantee his promises, he gave his word, a rock solid guarantee – God can’t break his word.  And because his word cannot change, the promise is likewise unchangeable.” Hebrews 6:14 (Message)

Alan Greenspan’s candid admission of error under harsh questions from the House Oversight Committee was business news yesterday.  He said he was shocked by the breakdown in the credit system.  His word was considered the “gold standard” among most of the business world including Democrats, Republicans and four United States Presidents.

My purpose is not to criticize Mr. Greenspan but, to remind us of the absolute trustworthiness of God’s Word to us.  In seeking to establish blame some of the questions seemed, well rather self serving.  Part of the problem I think was Mr. Greenspan’s faith in the bank’s ability to assess risk and make decisions in their own self interests.  We all make errors in judgment, including, it seem, Mr. Greenspan.

Evangelist D. L. Moody once said, “It is easier for me to have faith in the Bible than to have faith in D. L. Moody, for Moody has fooled me lots of times.”  Funny, but true!

The Bible has always been a completely reliable source of faith, guidance and hope for our decisions in life.  It’s principles about our purpose in life, relationships, finances and etc has always been proven life giving and productive.  The best of counselors are those who draw their wisdom from God’s Word.

“God’s law is more real and lasting than the stars in the sky and the ground at your feet.  Long after stars burn out and earth wears out, God’s law will be alive and working.” Matthew 5:18 (Message)
