Hi Family,
My recovery from cancer surgery is moving along slowly but steadily. At times I want to press ahead more quickly, but my doctors, nurses, and therapists remind me that healing takes patience. What keeps me anchored in this season is a vision God gave Becky and me many years ago.
I remember it vividly — two young adults praying before our fireplace in Georgia, a yellow legal pad on the floor, and me holding an orange pen. We wrote down what we believed God was calling us to as husband and wife. That vision has been polished and refined over the years, but it has never changed. It continues to guide us today.
Holding that vision in my heart helps me endure the challenges of recovery — physical, mental, and emotional. My therapists are encouraged by my progress, even calling me an “ideal patient.” I smile at that because for me, every exercise is more than rebuilding strength; it’s preparing to serve again. This is my parish — our Woodland Church family and our community. The Lord is renewing me, not just in body, but in spirit.
Becky and I are deeply grateful for the call of God on our lives. The path has been both joyful and painful, yet always blessed by the faithful love of God and the partnership of so many. Truly, thousands around the world have shared in the work of ministry with us, and we are humbled by that.
Paul’s words in 1 Corinthians capture well our motivation:
“So whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God… I don’t just do what is best for me; I do what is best for others so that many may be saved.”
— 1 Corinthians 10:31–33
Friend, let me ask you:
- Do you have a vision from God?
- Have you written it down?
- Do you return to it when life feels heavy or unclear?
- Have you found, as we have, that the journey is both painful and joyful?
- And do you see how deeply we need others to walk with us in fulfilling God’s call?
I encourage you to revisit the vision God has given you. Let it steady your steps, renew your heart, and point you toward His glory.
Remember I love you much! If I can help you in your journey, reach out. I’m here for you.
Peace!
