Today’s post about Fasting is by Pastor Corey Mantz. Corey is the husband of Janette, Dad of Brayden and Ella, and a Michigan Wolverine Fan. When it comes to food, Corey is all about steak! His wife loves snow and Corey love hot weather. They both love Jesus and students!
One of the memories I look back on with much laughter as a child is when we went to Florida for Spring Break. One night our family decided to drive to Venice beach to look for shark teeth. As we headed out on our trip, my step-father told us that he knew a short cut so we could get there quicker. What was only supposed to take 30 minutes ended up taking us 3 hours. It wasn’t until we stopped and asked someone for directions that we were able to find our destination.
Psalm 32:8 (NLT) says, “The Lord says, “I will guide you along the best pathway for your life. I will advise you and watch over you.” As you fast you willingly surrender something of satisfaction to make more room for God in your life. When you willingly give up food, entertainment or anything else to seek God, He will show up in your life and help get you moving in the direction that’s best for you.
If we wouldn’t have stopped and asked that individual for directions, we probably never would have found Venice Beach and been able to look for shark teeth. Fasting helps us to stop and ask God to guide our life. We just need to make sure that when God does speak and He gives us the best path to take, that we would listen.
