Grandparents love to take pictures of their newborn grandchildren. The strobes on cell phones are flashing and social media lights up with the news. People post congratulations and click “like” or little hearts on social media accounts. Happy relatives share the good news of the birth. As a devoted Dad and Grandfather, I share their happiness.
Our Heavenly Father knew there would not be proud grandparents or relatives around for birth of Jesus, so He arranged for a heavenly host to sing and announce the Good News to some poor shepherds in the fields where they wearily kept watch over their flocks. Read the story again!
Luke 2:8-14 NKJV
Now there were in the same country shepherds living out in the fields, keeping watch over their flock by night. And behold, an angel of the Lord stood before them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were greatly afraid. Then the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid, for behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy which will be to all people. For there is born to you this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord. And this will be the sign to you: You will find a Babe wrapped in swaddling cloths, lying in a manger.” And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God and saying: “Glory to God in the highest, And on earth peace, goodwill toward men!”
God sent His only “begotten” Son, Jesus, into our dark world, with a blaze of His shining glory. No social media can compare. Imagine the scene, the appearance of an angel of the Lord and a manifestation of God’s glory! God loved and chose these shepherds! He trusted them to go, see, and tell others about Jesus.
God chose a stable for his beloved Son. The shepherds would not have been invited into a palace or respectable inn. But a stable yes, they would be welcome. Since then all have been welcomed who come to “see this thing that has come to pass, which the Lord has made known to us.” Luke 2:15b NKJV
The Shepherds became life changers sharing the most amazing life changing message, “Christ the Lord has been born!”
Now when they had seen Him, they made widely known the saying which was told them concerning this Child. And all those who heard it marveled at those things which were told them by the shepherds. Luke 2:17-18 NKJV
God loves you, chose you, and trusts you to share the Good News of Jesus Christ. Be a life changer this week of Christmas! Joyfully share the Good News with someone! Tell them what life was like before you trusted Christ. Tell them what Christ has done for you. Your faith story will cause others to marvel at the Light of Christmas!
Peace!
