“This message applies to us.” It’s a note brought to me, Monday when the sanctuary was being cleaned. That note brought a smile to my face, especially when it was found where our students sit. While praying and writing their faces were in my thoughts, so yes, it was about God’s wisdom for them in particular. It’s encouraging to know that they listened.
Thirty seven years ago I was praying for direction about ministry to students. There were so many voices at the time declaring that students wouldn’t listen to someone preaching. As it was there were a lot of high school and college students willing to listen and listen they did while applying the Scriptures to their lives. To this day, I’m so proud them and grateful for what God did.
There are still students listening and applying the Scriptures. And today, I’m more confident than ever in the power of God’s Word preached. Finally, seeing God’s work in the lives of these students is His gift to me, still.
“So we continue to preach Christ to each person, using all wisdom to warn and to teach everyone, in order to bring each one into God’s presence as a mature person in Christ. To do this, I work and struggle, using Christ’s great strength that works so powerfully in me.” (Colossians 1:28–29, NCV)
