We’ve all had to get ready for a big day, like a wedding, your child’s graduation party, or a move. There preparations in our home, invitation lists, decorations, menus, entertainment, help, etc. Wow, I’m getting stressed just thinking about it. We have a tree in a bucket of water for Christmas, decorations that have to be brought up from the basement and tested, and a house and lawn decorated besides our Christmas preparations at church. We enjoy getting ready for Christmas.
I’d like to remind you that God sent a man, named John (the Baptist), who came to tell God’s people to get ready for the coming of the Messiah. “Get the road ready for the Lord; make a straight path for him to travel!” (Luke 3:4, GN) Getting Ready for Christmas is much more than holiday decorating and shopping. It is much more than wishing someone “Happy Holidays!” It is getting our hearts ready for the coming of our Lord and Savior.
As Christians we celebrate that God was incarnate at Christmas. In other words God became flesh and blood and dwelt among us. When we wish someone Merry Christmas, it is the coming of Jesus Christ, Emmanuel, God with us, we are celebrating!
He promised to come again! This Christmas it is time, to remind ourselves to Get Ready for the Second Coming of Jesus Christ. How are you getting ready?
Peace!
